Congrats Ozwald! Plus alongside Vaughan Oliver - both legends in your own rights. VO is one of my all-time favourite graphic designers! (And obviously Oz is No.1 for menswear)

Ozwald Boateng Awarded Honorary Degree

Ozwald Boateng was honoured to receive a prestigious award from the University Of Creative Arts this week, an Honorary Degree (Master Of Arts) for an Outstanding Contribution To The Clothing And Fashion Industries.

The day was an emotional one for Mr. Boateng, entrenched in tradition, something that really spoke to Ozwald’s belief in all that is British. Authentic attire unchanged for hundreds of years, and an age old ceremony culminating in a march fronted by an exquisitely costumed gentleman (clasping a sceptre might I add). This was quite something. A day so steeped in British culture could be compared only his experience of the Royal Wedding back in April…inspiring.

Mr. Boateng was joined by fellow recipient and much lauded Graphic Designer Vaughan Oliver to receive the coveted scroll, presented to him by Chancellor (and fashion legend), Zandra Rhodes. Among previous awardees are Bob Geldof and Alexandra Schulman (Vogue Editor), quite an accolade.

Ozwald commented:

“I’m really proud to receive this honorary degree. It’s a great feeling to have your years of hard work recognised. My father was a headmaster so I know he will be very proud to see me with an academic award.

“When you’re designing collections and running a business you can get lost in your own world and forget to celebrate what you’ve achieved.

“I have been very impressed with how much the students have achieved while at the UCA and hope I can inspire them to excel in their chosen careers.”
